A few examples of group workshops I have led, mostly music and STEM for mixed aged elementary school students in an after-school setting.
I also offer private guitar instruction tailored to the interests and abilities of my students, from beginners looking to master the basics to experienced players looking to cover advanced harmonic concepts and techniques.
Things that Fly
A STEM engineering workshop about things that fly! Rockets, parachutes, ziplines, and more!
I Sing the Body Electric
A STEM engineering workshop in which kids ages 7-9 learned about circuits, built lamps, motorized boats, alarm boxes, and synthesized what they learned to design and build their own inventions!
You Write It, I Sing It
Pandemic Songs written by kids, turned into songs and music videos by Kevin Wynd. When everything closed in March of 2020 and my workshops at JP KidsArts could no longer meet in person, I dreamed this up as a fun community art project and way to stay connected. Each week kids and families met on zoom to hear the week’s theme and watch the previous week’s videos. They then wrote and submitted lyrics based on the theme which I made songs and music videos to. A fun and light-hearted project much needed in an otherwise dark time.
Making the Band
A DIY rock band workshop for kids aged 5-8. Kids wrote songs, played rock instruments, engineered recordings, made a music video, and released an album on bandcamp. This workshop was for kids with little/no musical experience. I enjoyed finding creative ways to allow all the kids to access music making and truly embracing a punk ethos. I’m proud of them and how this project came out. Caution: this music is not for the faint of heart.
Rock Opera
A stop motion "Rock Opera" about aliens teaching humans how to rock created by elementary aged kids in my Rock Opera workshop.
